Manchester United’s 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool hit Brazilian midfielder Casemiro hard, as he was taken off at half-time and faced criticism from football experts.
Rumours spread that he’d left Old Trafford during the break, but United manager Erik ten Hag denied this.
In response, Casemiro’s wife has stepped up to defend her husband, highlighting his impressive trophy haul over his stellar career.
Anna Mariana shared an Instagram photo of his many awards, including five Champions League titles and three La Liga wins with Real Madrid, plus the FA Cup with Manchester United.
She then posted a picture of the 32-year-old celebrating with teammates, captioning it: “Always strong Casemiro, the biggest 🔥.”
Casemiro made two errors in the first half of Sunday’s match at Old Trafford, which Liverpool eventually capitalised on in their comfortable win.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher commented on Sky Sports: “It’s sad to see what he’s going through out there.”
“He seems to have lost a bit of confidence,” added ex-Manchester United full-back Gary Neville.
Casemiro was replaced at half-time by 20-year-old Toby Collyer, who made his United debut.
Ten Hag explained his decision: “We had to take risks to try and turn things around, so we needed midfielders who could cover ground. That’s why we brought on Toby Collyer. In football, everyone must take responsibility. I’m certain Casemiro is a great character who’s won everything imaginable in his career. I’m sure he’ll keep contributing to our team. Casemiro always wins, so he’ll bounce back.”
