Arsenal has secured the signing of Calafiori, a defender from Italy, who previously played for Bologna.
Arsenal announced on Monday that they have secured the signing of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna on a long-term contract. While the exact details of the transfer were not disclosed, Italian and British media sources report that Arsenal will pay Bologna approximately 40 million euros ($43.26 million), with an additional five million euros in add-on fees. Calafiori had an impressive season under Thiago Motta at Bologna, contributing significantly to their historic campaign. The team finished fifth in the Serie A standings and earned qualification for the Champions League for the first time since 1964. Having joined Bologna from AS Roma, the defender made 30 appearances in Serie A last season. In June, Calafiori made his international debut and participated in three out of four matches during the European Championship.

He holds the distinction of being the second-youngest Italian player to feature in the Euros, only behind Paolo Maldini. “We warmly welcome Riccardo and his family to Arsenal. His signing brings immense strength to our defense,” stated Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. “Riccardo possesses a strong personality and character, along with specific skills that will enhance our squad as we strive to win major trophies.

“We are excited about collaborating with Riccardo, incorporating him into the team, and providing him with our full support in the future.” Arsenal will kick off their Premier League season on August 17th, facing Wolverhampton Wanderers.
