Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes that his team is under a lot of pressure because they still haven’t won the Champions League trophy.
“Winning the Champions League would define my tenure at Manchester City in the eyes of the public, but I don’t agree with that. We are judged by our results in that competition. After my first match in the Champions League, they asked me if I had come to win the competition. If I were Real’s coach, I would understand that. No matter how much progress we make, people’s expectations will not change,” said Guardiola at a press conference in Manchester.
The manager of Manchester City pointed out that this is a difficult season for Kevin de Bruyne.
“This is a difficult season for all of us, including me. There are many factors, one of them being that the World Cup was played in December. I can’t score goals for De Bruyne, he has the quality to do that. I believe that simple things will help him play better,” added Guardiola.
He stated that he expects better games from the Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.
“It’s important for you to know that I don’t like it when players only score goals from the penalty area. Yes, that’s important and we want Erling to do that, but if he’s far from the opposition goal, we want him to be active. He has improved, but he can do even better,” said Guardiola.
