German football legend Franz Beckenbauer passed away yesterday at the age of 78. The death of one of the three players to win the World Cup both as a player and a coach was confirmed by his family.
Beckenbauer is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers from Germany. He achieved victory in 104 matches wearing the German national team jersey, captaining the side to the World Cup title in 1974. Later, as a coach in Italy, he accomplished the same feat, lifting the trophy 16 years later.
