If Arsenal is going to finally end their 20-year wait for a Premier League championship, they will require contributions from every member of the squad this season.
Once again, Leandro Trossard proved his value as a substitute in Saturday’s victory against Aston Villa. Arsenal traveled to the Midlands to face a Villa team that defeated them twice last season, ultimately leading to their loss of the title. Despite facing significant pressure from the impressive home side, Trossard seized a crucial opportunity and scored with his first touch after coming on as a substitute, propelling Arsenal to a 2-0 win. Out of Trossard’s 14 Premier League goals for Arsenal, six have come as a substitute, the highest proportion among any player who has scored 10 or more goals for the club in the competition. With Manchester City already winning their first two matches in pursuit of their fifth consecutive Premier League title, impact players like Trossard coming off the bench will be crucial for Arsenal’s success.

“First and foremost, when you’re not selected, there are specific ways to react,” stated coach Mikel Arteta during his conversation with reporters. He further explained that Leo (Trossard) was disappointed, but not because he wasn’t playing. Rather, he was upset that he couldn’t demonstrate his true abilities on the field.
This quality is truly remarkable. Whenever Leo is included in the starting lineup, he consistently delivers outstanding performances. It serves as a significant message and example for both the team and myself.

On a different day, Aston Villa could have capitalized on their opportunities and posed a greater threat to Arsenal’s title aspirations, as they did in the previous season. However, Arsenal’s resilience displayed at Villa Park puts them in a favourable position to keep up with Manchester City.
Arteta emphasized the tremendous impact made by the substitutions. As the team becomes more adaptable and capable of handling various situations during matches, they evolve into a team that can triumph anywhere. Today, we demonstrated exactly that.
When we needed to rely on certain individuals, we did so without hesitation. And that, in itself, is not a negative aspect.”
