Tottenham dismiss Thomas Frank after Newcastle defeat

Tottenham Hotspur have dismissed head coach Thomas Frank, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure despite the Danish manager having recently expressed confidence that he would remain in charge.

The decision comes in the aftermath of Spurs’ latest Premier League setback, a 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United, a result that further deepened the club’s poor run of form and intensified pressure on the coaching staff.

Earlier, Frank had publicly stated he was confident of retaining his position and continuing the project in north London. However, the club’s board has now opted to make a managerial change as results and performances continued to fall below expectations.

In an official statement, Tottenham confirmed the departure, saying the club had been determined to give Frank time and support since his appointment in June 2025 but ultimately concluded that a change was necessary at this stage of the season.

“The Club has made the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position, and Thomas Frank will leave today,” the statement read. “Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

“However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Frank’s dismissal follows a difficult run in the Premier League that has seen Tottenham slide dangerously close to the relegation zone. The defeat to Newcastle proved particularly damaging, leaving Spurs just a few points above the bottom three and without a league victory in 2026.

Despite guiding the team into the knockout stages of European competition earlier in the campaign, domestic inconsistency and a lack of momentum ultimately cost the former Brentford manager his position.

His departure marks another period of instability for Tottenham as the club now begins the search for a new head coach tasked with stabilising results and steering the team away from a potential relegation battle.

An interim coaching arrangement is expected to be announced shortly as the Spurs attempt to regroup and salvage their season.
