Manchester United have completed the signing of Patrick Dorgu, securing the highly rated Danish full-back from Lecce in a €37.5 million deal, including bonuses. The move sees the 20-year-old defender head to the Premier League immediately on a permanent transfer, ending speculation over a potential switch to Napoli.
Dorgu’s transfer represents an extraordinary profit for Lecce, who originally signed him for just €200,000. The club’s sporting director, Pantaleo Corvino, managed to negotiate a significant fee after Manchester United raised their offer following an initial round of talks that ended without a breakthrough.
The Red Devils’ renewed bid outpaced that of Napoli, whose manager Antonio Conte is known to be a strong admirer of the versatile full-back. With Dorgu now Premier League-bound, Napoli will need to look elsewhere to reinforce their squad.
Dorgu’s arrival comes amid an overhaul of United’s attacking options, with Antony already offloaded to Real Betis and further high-profile departures expected.
The Red Devils remain in talks with Napoli over Alejandro Garnacho, with new boss Rúben Amorim reportedly open to letting the Argentine leave if the right offer materialises. While Dorgu’s signing is not directly linked to Garnacho’s future, his versatility could influence squad decisions.
Additionally, Marcus Rashford is increasingly likely to depart, with Barcelona pressing to sign the England international in what could be another blockbuster move of the transfer window.
Although primarily a left-back, Dorgu is also capable of playing in a more advanced role on the right flank. Amorim has so far preferred Amad Diallo in that position, but Dorgu’s arrival could provide a new tactical option for United’s attacking setup.
