The hearing concerning Manchester City’s 115 alleged violations of Premier League financial rules is set to commence on Monday, as reported by ESPN.
In February 2023, the club was referred to an independent commission regarding these accusations, which date back to the 2009-10 season. The allegations pertain to breaches involving the submission of accurate financial data.
Additionally, City face charges for not adhering to Premier League mandates that require clubs to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations from the 2013-14 to 2017-18 seasons. They are also accused of not following Premier League rules on profit and sustainability (PSR) during the 2015-16 to 2017-18 periods.
The club, which secured an unprecedented fourth consecutive top-flight title in May, expressed surprise at the league’s “issuing of these alleged breaches” when they were referred to the commission.
“The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position,” City stated.
Sources informed ESPN that the hearing is scheduled to commence on 16th September and is anticipated to span approximately two months, with a final decision, including any appeals, expected by season’s end. If found culpable, City could face sanctions such as points deductions or relegation. Last season, Everton and Nottingham Forest were penalised with points deductions for violating PSR regulations. Manchester City were not immediately available for comment, and the Premier League also declined to provide a statement.
