Late drama at Stamford Bridge, Brentford thrash Southampton, and Bournemouth sink Everton

Chelsea 1-1 Crystal Palace
Chelsea’s winless run extended to four Premier League matches as Jean-Philippe Mateta’s late equaliser salvaged a 1-1 draw for Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer gave Chelsea an early advantage in the 14th minute, finishing off a well-crafted move initiated by Jadon Sancho. The winger dummied his marker near the halfway line before sprinting down the left flank to deliver a precise assist to Palmer, whose angled shot beat Sam Johnstone.

Chelsea had chances to seal the win but failed to convert, and Crystal Palace made them pay in the 82nd minute. Eberechi Eze’s clever ball found substitute Mateta, who smashed it home from close range, easing Palace’s relegation worries.

The result leaves Chelsea in fourth place, just a point ahead of Newcastle United, who are chasing Champions League qualification. Palace remain 15th, six points clear of the drop zone.

Southampton 0-5 Brentford
Brentford secured their first away win of the season in emphatic fashion, thrashing Southampton 5-0 at St Mary’s Stadium. Bryan Mbeumo starred with two goals, while Kevin Schade, Keane Lewis-Potter, and Yoane Wissa also found the net in a dominant display.

Schade opened the scoring in the sixth minute, expertly finishing after being set up by Mikkel Damsgaard. Mbeumo doubled the lead in the 62nd minute before adding his second from the penalty spot seven minutes later. In stoppage time, Mbeumo turned provider, assisting Lewis-Potter for Brentford’s fourth. Wissa rounded off the rout in the 94th minute.

Southampton’s struggles continued as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just six points from 20 matches. Brentford, meanwhile, climbed into mid-table, boosted by a commanding performance that showcased their attacking depth.

Bournemouth 1-0 Everton
David Brooks’ stunning volley was enough to earn Bournemouth a deserved 1-0 victory over Everton at the Vitality Stadium

The match was evenly contested until the 77th minute when Brooks displayed exceptional technique to volley Milos Kerkez’s cross into the net from 10 metres out. Bournemouth had earlier dominated proceedings, with Jordan Pickford making key saves to deny Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo in the first half.

Everton struggled to create opportunities, failing to register a single shot on target. Their scoring woes continued, with the Merseyside club managing just one open-play goal in their last nine league matches. Bournemouth, by contrast, are enjoying a record-breaking season, sitting in seventh place with 33 points and 30 goals after 20 matches.

The result heaps further pressure on Everton manager Sean Dyche, whose side now sits precariously in 16th place, just two points above the relegation zone.
