Another seven teams reached the Round of 16 of the National Amateur Cup as the remaining matches from the Round of 32 were played on Sunday.
At the Luxol Stadium, eighteen penalties were needed to determine a winner after the clash between Vittoriosa Stars and Mellieha ended in a goalless draw at the end of ninety minutes and extra-time.
In the penalty shoot-out, Matthias Vella, Christian Grech, Mirco Vella, Sebastian Perdomo, Cody Baguley, Jacob Farrugia, Jake Saliba and Edafe Uzeh scored for Mellieha with Michael Camilleri missing the first penalty. On the other hand, Gordon Saliba, Clive Spiteri, Aaron Sammut, Godwin Emmanuel, Max Borg Bartolo, Adrian Caruana, and Arsene Rye Cilia Mumford scored for Vittoriosa with Aidan Agius Glford and Liam Ciantar missing their penalties.
In the Round of 16, Mellieha will be facing Marsaskala who defeated Zejtun Corinthians 3-2 after extra-time at the Sirens Stadium.
Stefi Cale put Zejtun ahead on the 8th and Leon Theuma equalised seven minutes later. The game went into extra-time and Kenrick Farrugia restored the lead for Zejtun eleven minutes in the first half of extra-time but Cain Cutajar equalised a minute later. James Oghenekewaro notched the winner one minute from time.
Victoria Hotspurs defeated Mqabba 2-0 at the Luxol Stadium thanks to goals by Dejan Bogdanovic on the 6th and Ferdinando Apap just before the end of the first half.
In the Round of 16, the Hotspurs will be facing Luqa St. Andrew’s who defeated St. George’s 1-0 at the Sirens Stadium, courtesy of a Mario Jude Dominicius goal on the 14th minute.
At the Charles Abela Stadium, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated San Gwann 3-0 thanks to goals by Cedric Zahra on the 7th, Leejoe Schembri on the 66th and Yusuf Abdullahi Sulaiman on the 71st.
In the next round, Birzebbuga will be facing Ta’ Xbiex who managed to beat Gharb Rangers 2-0 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium courtesy of Jurgen Sciriha just before the end of the first half and Johan Grech seven minutes from time.
Meanwhile Pembroke Athleta defeated Ghaxaq 4-1 after extra-time at the Charles Abela Stadium. Weverton Gomes converted a penalty on the 65th but Ryden Gatt equalised eight minutes from time to force extra-time. Eight minutes in the first half of extra-time, Roderick Taliana restored the lead for Pembroke and four minutes later, Jamie Camilleri made it 3-1. Taliana scored another goal on the 117th minute.
In the Round of 16, Pembroke face Qormi.
Gozitan side Kercem Ajax registered an incredible 10-0 win over Sta. Venera Lightnings at the Sirens Stadium as the first eight matches from the Round of 32 of the National Amateur Cup were played on Saturday.
Andrew Mizzi put the Ajax ahead on the 5th and Kaio Lucas scored twice on the 22nd and 25th before Andrew Mizzi added another on the 38th with Samuel Azzopardi making it 5-0 three minutes from the end of the first half. In the second half, Cesinha scored four – on the 49th, 51st, 82nd and 86th with Kaio Lucas adding another on the 68th.
In the Round of 16, Kercem Ajax will be facing Munxar Falcons who defeated St. Lawrence Spurs 3-2 in a clash between two Gozitan sides at the Kercem Ajax Stadium.
Eduin Padilla put the Spurs two goals ahead thanks to goals on the 4th and 10th but a brace by Daniel Mesa on the 20th and 30th restored equilibrium with Joseph George Vella notching the winner on the 71st.
Kalkara United came from behind to beat Rabat Ajax 2-1 after extra-time at the Luxol Stadium.
Jake Cordina put the Magpies ahead on the 8th minute but Liam Paul Hartley equalised on the 57th to force extra-time. Four minutes from the end of the second half of extra-time, Pedro Martins notched the winner for Kalkara.
Kalkara will be facing Xghajra Tornados in the Round of 16 after the Tornados defeated Gozitan side Sannat Lions 1-0 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium.
Francesco Gusman scored the all-important goal on 62 minutes.
At the Charles Abela Stadium, Attard defeated Dingli Swallows 4-1.
Nigel Spiteri put Attard ahead five minutes from the end of the first half and two minutes in the second half, Nicholas Schembri doubled the score. Justin Cassar made it 3-0 and although Ronaldinho Nathaniel Daley reduced the gap on the 77th, Nick Ghio restored a three-goal lead four minutes later.
Attard will be facing Mdina Knights in the Round of 16 after Mdina beat Msida St. Joseph 4-2 in another match at the Charles Abela Stadium.
Andrew Spiteri put the Saints ahead on the 19th but the Knights turned the score in their favour with a goal by Jean Scholey on the 20th and a penalty by Lyden Micallef four minutes in the second half. Jean Scholey extended the lead on the 75th and although Kurt Agius reduced the gap on the 77th, Scholey completed his hat-trick six minutes from time.
Gharghur set a clash with Qrendi after defeating Gozitan side Zebbug Rovers 3-0 at the Luxol Stadium.
Following a goalless first half, Mihaly Gidaly put Gharghur ahead on the 62nd. Warren Azzopardi doubled the score on the 74th and four minutes later, Jayden Aquilina sealed the issue with a third goal.
At the Sirens Stadium, Qormi defeated Siggiewi 3-1 after extra-time.
Morientes Muscat put Qormi ahead on the 39th but two minutes in added time, Lincoln Micallef converted a penalty to level matters and force extra-time. However in extra-time, Qormi scored twice thanks to a Cadu brace on the 93rd and 115th.
