BUNDESLIGA returns after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
After the stunning final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, club football is set to take over the world. The nearly two-month break between the first and second halves of the season can bring multiple changes to each team’s equation. The Bundesliga had many memorable encounters and moments before this long World Cup break.
The German league is known for its vicious football, where teams like to aggressively tackle their opponents. Clubs in the Bundesliga also invest large amounts of money in strikers and attacking midfielders. This break also gave the teams space to think about the games ahead of them for the rest of the season.
A total of 135 games were played in the first part. If we look at the points table, Bayern Munich, like most of the time, are high on the table with 34 points from the first 15 games. Bayern has won 10 of its 15 league matches. From Sadio Mane’s arrival in the Bundesliga to Jamal Musial becoming a pre-World Cup sensation to Werder Bremen’s stunning comeback, there are few moments to objectively admire all that the Bundesliga has brought.
RB Leipzig had a troubled start to the season. Under Tedesco, Leipzig won only 5 points in the first 5 games and stayed in 11th place. With this poor start, Tedesco had to face the sack, and RB Leipzig appointed Mark Rose as their next chief of staff. This appointment completely changed Leipzig’s performance. After Rose took over as manager, they won seven of ten games and drew two against Mainz 05 and Augsburg.Their turnaround began with a 3:0 win against Borussia Dortmund.
Sadio Mane moved from the English Premier League to the Bundesliga.
This move by Sadio Mane was unexpected. Mane was the best striker at Liverpool; Bayern Munich made the right move by bringing him to German football. Sadio Mane made his Bundesliga debut in the first game against Eintracht Frankfurt. Munich won 6:1, and Mane opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Mane has scored 11 goals for Bayern so far, including six in the Bundesliga. Mane, unfortunately, had to miss the World Cup due to an injury.
The return of Werder Bremen against Borussia Dortmund
Werder Bremen is currently in 9th place with 21 points. Bremen started the season in the Bundesliga with two consecutive draws, and then they were on the verge of losing against Dortmund. In the 88th minute, Borussia Dortmund led 2:0. They had an almost certain victory, but then the magical turn of the season happened.
In a span of six minutes, Werder scored three consecutive goals and shocked everyone. Lee Buchanan scored for Werder Bremen in the 89th minute, Niklas Schmidt in the 90th + 3rd minute, and Oliver Burke in the 90th + 5th minute.
Bayern Munich was defeated 1:0 by FC Augsburg.
