Barcelona announced today that it has sold 10% of the television club rights for Primera Liga matches over the next 25 years to the American fund “Sixth Street” for 207.5 million euros.
With this transaction, Barcelona achieves a total capital gain of 267 million euros for the current season, as stated in the announcement of the club.
Barcelona is in financial problems, and the Catalan media report that the club would end the year in a deficit of 150 million euros without this contract.
“We are activating economic decisions and implementing our patient, sustainable, and efficient strategy to strengthen the financial base,” said the President of Barcelona, Joan Laporta.
The sale of television rights is one of the two financial decisions that were adopted at last week’s session of the club’s assembly, in order to increase revenues as quickly as possible and enable the bringing in of players.
This means that Frank Casey and Andreas Christensen will soon become the new players of the Catalan club, while he has been in contact with Robert Lewandowski and Rafinha for a long time.
