In a significant diplomatic and sporting initiative, FIFA’s New York office at Trump Tower hosted a high-level meeting to review the joint bid by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The session, chaired by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, provided Morocco with an opportunity to reaffirm its strong commitment and readiness to co-host this landmark global football event.
Akhannouch Showcases Morocco’s Progress
Morocco was represented by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, who also engaged in discussions with the Spanish Prime Minister and the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Akhannouch emphasized Morocco’s rapid transformation and dynamic progress, particularly in areas linked to its World Cup candidacy. He outlined the country’s major advances in infrastructure, highlighting ongoing and future projects in transportation, accommodation, and sports facilities—each designed to meet FIFA standards.
He also underscored the scope and impact of Morocco’s structural reforms across key sectors, aimed at strengthening the nation’s economic, social, and sporting credentials to successfully host an event of such magnitude.
Presenting a clear and confident vision, Akhannouch reassured participants of Morocco’s preparedness and proactive planning, while stressing that the World Cup bid is a national endeavor under high royal patronage.
The meeting also addressed the establishment of the “Morocco 2030 Foundation”, which will serve as a government liaison to oversee and coordinate programs linked to World Cup preparations.
