Thomas Muller Likely to Extend Bayern Munich Contract Amid Manchester United Interest

There is growing optimism within Bayern Munich that Thomas Muller will choose to extend his contract with the club beyond the current season, according to reports. Despite limited playing time under manager Thomas Tuchel, Bayern remains eager to secure the services of the seasoned forward, who has spent almost 15 years at the Allianz Arena.

Thomas Muller’s illustrious career at Bayern includes 237 goals and 261 assists in 681 appearances across all competitions, establishing him as one of the club’s all-time greats. However, the 34-year-old has found himself on the sidelines more frequently this season, leading to speculation about his future at the club.

With only 485 minutes of action in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined, and nine of his 14 appearances coming from the substitutes’ bench, Muller’s reduced role has prompted interest from clubs like Manchester United. Head coach Erik ten Hag is reportedly considering reinforcements in the attacking department during the upcoming January transfer window.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Thomas Muller’s contract situation, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern is prepared to initiate talks for an extension. The club respects Muller’s iconic status and is keen to engage in discussions with sporting director Christoph Freund leading the negotiations.

While a contract renewal is not guaranteed, there is a sense of optimism within Bayern that an agreement will eventually be reached. Tuchel has acknowledged Muller’s frustration with limited playing time but has expressed his desire to see the veteran forward remain an integral part of Bayern’s long-term plans.

In the most recent Champions League fixture against Copenhagen, Muller played the full 90 minutes in a goalless draw. However, his playing time has been sporadic, with only one other complete match in the DFB-Pokal resulting in a surprise 2-1 defeat to Saarbruecken.

Bayern Munich‘s Bundesliga fixture against Union Berlin was postponed due to snow, and their next scheduled encounter is an away trip to Eintracht Frankfurt on December 9. As the contract saga unfolds, all eyes will be on whether Thomas Muller commits to extending his legendary association with Bayern Munich or entertains potential suitors, including the reported interest from Manchester United.
