Andy Murray withdraws from Olympics singles, doubles Opponents Revealed

Andy Murray, the two-time Olympic champion, has announced his withdrawal from the men’s singles event at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

The 37-year-old Scottish tennis star had already confirmed his plans to retire from the sport after the Games, but a lingering injury has forced him to prioritize the doubles event.

Murray’s Back Injury Leads to Singles Withdrawal A back operation earlier this year led to Murray’s withdrawal from the singles event at Wimbledon. However, he has since recovered sufficiently to team up with his brother Jamie Murray in the doubles competition. The decision to focus on the doubles event was made to ensure Murray can represent Great Britain one more time before his retirement.

“I’ve taken the decision to withdraw from the singles to concentrate on the doubles with Dan,” Murray said in a statement. “Our practice has been great and we’re playing well together. Really looking forward to getting started and representing GB one more time.”

British Tennis Lineup for the Olympics While Murray is not competing in the singles event, several other British players will be representing the country in both the men’s and women’s draws.

In the men’s singles, Dan Evans, Jack Draper, and Cameron Norrie will be competing. Evans will face Tunisia’s Moez Echargui, Draper will take on Japan’s Kei Nishikori, and Norrie will meet Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor.

In the women’s draw, Katie Boulter will play Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, and she will also team up with Heather Watson to face Germany’s Angelique Kerber and Laura Siegemund in the doubles event.

The mixed doubles will see Joe Salisbury and Heather Watson take on Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriela Dabrowski.
