Near perfect weather conditions for first day of Yachting Malta BSC International Regatta

Birzebbugia Sailing Club today hosted the first day of the Yachting Malta BSC International Regatta in near perfect weather conditions, which made a good change from previous years when rough weather thwarted racing plans.

The ILCA Fleets, along with the Optimist Senior and Cadet fleets, participated in three races each, while the Optimist Beginner fleet competed in two races. Provisional results following the first day of racing are as follows:-

ILCA 4:

– Timmy Vassallo (MYSC) dominated the Class with three wins in three races.

– Harry Fairbairn (MYSC) secured second place with a gap of 5 points, followed by Thomas Zahra (BSC) in third.

ILCA 6:

– Benjamin Vassallo (MYSC)  leads the ILCA 6 fleet with two wins and a second place.

– Lacey Aquilina (BSC) and Matthew Debono (MYSC) follow closely behind.

ILCA 7:

– Shaun Aquilina (BSC) is currently leading, with fellow team mate  Crispin Peresso  and Julian Elwood (RMYC) follwoing closely behind. Only two points separate the top three sailors.

Optimist Beginner:

– Jeremy Decelis (BSC) leads the Beginner’s fleet, followed by Ella Grech (BSC) and Jamie Azzopardi from MYSC. There were only two races held for this fleet.

Optimist Cadet:

– Villams Osipovs (TJK-FVR) was unbeaten in all three races and is currently in the lead. Ethan Kodjaazliev (RMYC) follows, with Emir Tombuloglu (Galatassaray) just one point behind in third.

Optimist Senior:

This is the largest fleet of the regatta, and currently Andrei Zhakov (BSC) is leading the fleet. He is followed by Matthias Spiteri (MYSC) who registered two wins out of three races, whilst Jonas Micallef (RMYC) currently stands in third place.

Racing resumes tomorrow at 1100hrs.

The event is supported by Yachting Malta, Visit Malta, Kunsill Lokali Birzebbuga, Veleria 3 Fl, Malta Optimist Academy, RLR Yachting, and SportMalta, the Yachting Malta BSC Regatta takes place under the auspices of the Malta Sailing Federation.
