Bradley Mifsud sets new national record in the discus throw

Discus-thrower Bradley Mifsud bettered his own National Record with a splendid performance at the Marsa stadium, establishing a new benchmark at 55.41m.

This feat meant that the Pembroke Athlete registered almost a one-and-a-half metre improvement over his previous best, which stood at 53.80m, dating back to January of last year, at a meeting hosted by Rush AC in the early part of the season.

Athletes were reconvening on track for the second part of the season, for the first Open Challenge of the season, a series of meetings leading to the Summer National Championships in June.

Once again, the 100m women sprint turned out to be an exciting battle between Carla Scicluna and Claire Azzopardi, with the former taking top spot in 11.80s, 0.06s ahead of her nearest rival. Under 18 athlete Thea Parnis Coleiro finished third in 12.22. Among the men, first place for Graham Pellegrini in 10.93s, ahead of Luke Bezzina in 11.01s.

Despite not competing on her favourite 400m distance, Janet Richard delivered a strong performance, clocking 2:06.32 on the 800m, a very encouraging timing at this point of the season.
