Maltese youths team start commitments in Bridlington

The Maltese national youth teams started their commitments in the Nations Cup 2024 being held in Bridlington has begun.

The under-18 team played four matches as they won two while losing the other two matches. After two initial defeats of 16-9 against Northern Ireland and 17-8 against England, two consecutive victories came against Scotland 14-11 and against Wales 21-4.

On the other hand, the under-23 team played three matches of which they won one and lost two. The team led by Robert Attard lost 16-9 against Wales and 19-6 against Scotland although they made up for it in the match against Ireland as they got a positive score of 19-6.

There were also the doubles competitions as the couple Daniel Vella/Deacon Formosa were eliminated by Connor Cannif/Ryan Hamar 3-2. Eventually the latter had to meet another Maltese couple in the second phase Matthew Debono and Liam Mifsud although this time they lost 3-1 with the Maltese winning this match. Earlier Debono and Mifsud had won the derby against Christian Spiteri and Casdy Vella 3-1 so they continued to advance two rounds.

There was also another all-Maltese clash when Steve Muscat and Nordai Desira beat Jake Castaldi and Chaylon Castaldi 3-1. On the other hand, Nick Muscat and Denzel Falzon were eliminated from the KO phase after losing 3-1 against Dewi Williams and Lydon Hamilton.
