Santa Margherita won the Nestle Ice Cream Female Beach Soccer tournament when they beat Mtarfa 4-3 in an extremely intensive final.
Santa Margherita were always ahead but the Mtarfa side stayed in the game where it was only at the end that the players had to throw in the towel.
Shakira Bugeja put Santa Margherita on top from a free kick with Shania Spiteri equalizing for Mtarfa.
Rohanne Zahra and Shakira Bugeja established an advantage of two more goals for Santa Margherita with Mtarfa re-entering in the game after goals from Darya Attard and Shania Spiteri.
Towards the end of the third session, Kirsty Paris scored what was the winning goal.
At the end of the match, MBSA technical coordinator Kurt Callus presented the cup to Santa Margherita’s captain Shakira Bugeja.
This tournament was contested by three teams where, apart from Santa Margerita and Mtarfa, Parr Mela was the other team taking part.
In the group stage matches, Santa Margherita got maximum points after two victories against Mtarfa 4-3 and Parr Mela 6-3 while Mtarfa beat Parr Mela 11-2.
