Security measures will be heightened on the sidelines to prevent fans from approaching players at the European Championship, following an incident where at least six fans attempted to take selfies with Cristiano Ronaldo.
UEFA announced on Sunday that “additional safety measures will be implemented” in all 10 stadiums in Germany. However, no specific details were given regarding the updated plan to deter intruders, who may face criminal charges.
UEFA stated, “Any unauthorized entry onto the pitch is considered a violation of stadium regulations and will result in immediate expulsion from the stadium, a ban from all tournament matches, and the filing of a formal criminal complaint for trespassing.”

During Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Turkey on Saturday, four fans managed to enter the field in pursuit of Ronaldo. After the match in Dortmund ended, more fans attempted to do the same.
Although it appeared that the fans who invaded the field only wanted a photo, the tournament’s security plan also aims to ensure the players’ safety.
Several incidents of fans entering the field have occurred during Euro 2024, including one where a fan with a camera came within touching distance of Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne during a match against Slovakia in Frankfurt.
It seems that a monetary offer by a YouTube presenter may have motivated multiple individuals to invade the field during the Champions League final.
