A team of five promising sailors will represent Malta at the Optimist World Championship, scheduled from December 5 to 15, in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
The squad has undergone intensive preparation under the skilled supervision of Optimist coach Ivan Vasilev, readying themselves for this prestigious international event.
The Maltese contingent comprises Isaac Azzopardi, Liam Andrew Cutajar, Aleksandra Nagrudnaia from Birzebbugia Sailing Club, alongside Sebastian Miceli Demajo and Timothy De Cesare from Malta Young Sailors Club, who have been conducting joint training sessions over recent months.
Beyond their nautical training, the team has engaged in various team-building exercises to strengthen their collective performance and cooperation.
The squad will embark for Argentina on Friday, allowing time to settle before the championship, which stands as a significant test for these young competitors.
The Malta Sailing Federation expressed that this participation demonstrates Malta’s increasing influence in international sailing and motivates young sailing enthusiasts throughout the island.
“We extend our warmest wishes to the team for this remarkable opportunity,” the Malta Sailing Federation stated.
“Fair winds to Team Malta!”
