Great Thomas Ceccon, who repeats Nicolò Martinenghi’s gold and dominates the 100 backstroke final with a fantastic comeback in the second half of the pool, surpasses Chinese swimmer Xu and American swimmer Murphy.

This marks the eighth medal for the Italian team.
Ceccon, who had turned in third place, finished with a time of 52″00, gradually closing the gap on veteran Murphy and overpowering Xu in the head-to-head battle. Xu, who was considered the favorite beforehand, was left trailing behind. The Venetian backstroker, who had already won bronze in the 4×100 freestyle, is also the world record holder in the 100 backstroke.

Even someone as flamboyant as him struggled to hold back tears on the podium and was then celebrated by his teammates, including Martinenghi.
