The Malta Mountain Bike Association National Championships delivered an action-packed competition in Mizieb. The event was filled with some solid performances despite the intense heat affecting participants.
In the Elite category, the race started with Luke Borg and Clyve Chetcuti closely matched during the first lap. However, as the race progressed, Luke widened the gap, securing a comfortable victory ahead of Chetcuti. In third place was Brandon Sultana.
Marie Claire Aquilina added another championship title to her name. Despite a late start, she showcased her resilience and determination, overtaking Lara Buttigieg on the second lap, showing consistently strong performance and unmatched speed.
The Championship also hosted four other adult Categories. The Sport Category was won by Josmar Vella, the 40+ was a well-contested affair with Joaquin Rojas taking the win followed by Liran Ben Ari and Alex Portelli. The 50+ Category saw Stephen Grima take the podium, while the E-Bike category was won by Robert Magro.
The Junior Categories were also well attended, the immense heat seemingly not affecting the young riders’ enthusiasm and energy. Their resilience and passion for mountain biking were evident throughout the races. Podium placings in the various Junior Categories were as follows – U19 Boys: Kyle Scicluna, U17 Boys: Ryan Gatt. In the U15 Boys and U15 Girls categories, the top three podium places were secured by Liam Daly, Neil Cassar, Jake Refalo (U15 Boys) and Nina Debono, Katie Anne Vella Wood, Kim Micallef Cann (U15 Girls). The U12 Boys podium consisted of: – Zac Bugeja, Kruiven Farrugia, Zack Saliba, whilst the top spot in the U12 Girls category was taken up by Micakay Fava.
