The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri has announced that applications have opened for those Gozitan athletes who wish to participate in the Island Games 2025.
“After the first adventure we had in these competitions and in which we had a good performance, the ministry started preparations for another contingent of athletes to represent Gozo in these games, which in July of next year they will be held in Orkney, Scotland. The athletes will have the full support of the Gozo Island Games Association,” said Minister Camilleri.
“The Gozo experience in Guernsey was a wonderful one and in Orkney, Team Gozo will again make all its efforts so that we continue to be successful. Today the application process is being opened, which process will ensure that the best talent is selected,” said Minister Camilleri.
In 2023, Gozo managed to win four medals, a silver medal in athletics and a gold, silver and bronze medal in shooting. However, the Gozitan shooters will not be able to participate during the Island Games 2025 as no shooting competitions will be organized during the games that will be held in Orkney.
Interested athletes must apply online at gozo.gov.mt no later than 6 September 2024. A specially set up selection board will analyze each application and will see that the selected applicants have met the established criteria. This ensures that the process is open and transparent.
