Marco Bezzecchi dominated the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday, leading from start to finish to take his second win of the season. The Aprilia rider strengthened his hold on third place in the championship, with just one round left.
After a disappointing third place in Saturday’s sprint, Bezzecchi controlled the full race, finishing more than 2.5 seconds ahead of Alex Marquez. Pedro Acosta came in third after closing the gap late in the race.
Francesco Bagnaia, who is also battling for third in the championship, crashed out from fourth place, leaving him 35 points behind Bezzecchi before the final race in Valencia.
Bezzecchi said: “It was a fantastic race. I felt better today and worked hard yesterday to find that last bit of speed. I was worried about Pedro and Alex, but I’m very happy to be back on the top step of the podium.”
The race also marked a farewell for Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira, who is moving to World Superbikes after 15 years in Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP.
The season ends next weekend at the Valencia Grand Prix.
