Champions Lija Athletics Women took a massive step towards the final of the Enemed Women’s Futsal League with a dominant 7-0 victory over Mtarfa Women Futsal. From the first whistle, Jackie Abdilla’s side controlled the game, leaving Mtarfa with little chance to challenge.
Hailey Russell, Ruth Steer Cheetham, and Leanne Micallef each bagged a brace, while Izabella Camilleri added another to complete the rout. Referees for the match were Clinton Cassar and Matthias Buttigieg.
Meanwhile, the other semifinal was a far more balanced contest, with Zero Sei and Swieqi United Futsal LEC07 battling to a tense 0-0 draw. Both teams created goal-scoring chances, but the goalkeepers stood firm, ensuring a goalless stalemate. Danilo Francalanza and Matthias Buttigieg officiated the match.
The decisive second-leg fixtures will be played next week. Zero Sei will take on Swieqi United LEC07 at MCS Birkirkara on Tuesday at 9:30 PM, while Lija Athletics will face Mtarfa Futsal at the De La Salle Pavilion on Wednesday at 8:30 PM.
