German company Porsche has become a co-owner of Red Bull in the Formula 1 championship, according to documents published by Motorsport.com.
Namely, Porsche has bought 50% of Red Bull and everything will be made official by the end of next week, which should result in the development of a power unit that will meet the rules on F1 engines for 2026.
For now, there is no information about Audi, which was connected with Sauber (they have a current contract with Alfa Romeo), but we should not be surprised if Audi becomes a partner of Alfa Tauri.
Red Bull currently uses engines from Honda after reaching a deal to use the Japanese automaker’s engines until 2025, with Red Bull establishing a new operation called Red Bull Powertrains Limited in the move.
Honda has left F1 at the end of the 2021 season.
This will not be the first appearance of the German company in F1, because between 1957 and 1964 they achieved one victory, five podiums and one pole position, while their second attempt in 1991 fared much less well.
