Sergio Perez's contract extended with Red Bull for two years

Red Bull has made the decision to retain the services of the 34-year-old Mexican as the ideal candidate to partner with Max Verstappen in 2025. Perez has recently agreed to a two-year contract extension which will see him continue with the team not only for the upcoming year but also for the 2026 season.

According to Perez, he expressed his joy in staying with the team for another two years to continue their journey together and to contribute to the team’s rich history. He sees being a part of the team as a great challenge that he enjoys. This year presents a great challenge, and he trusts the entire team to have a bright future. He is thrilled to be a part of it.

Last month, the two parties reached a verbal agreement to extend their partnership and have now officially signed the contract. This decision was made after the team considered and rejected Carlos Sainz, who will be departing Ferrari at the end of this season, as a potential candidate for the seat.

Perez emerged as the leading contender for the available race position, which has been a topic of speculation for the past year. The 34-year-old has been battling for his place since a disappointing performance last season, starting in May 2023 at the infamous Monaco Grand Prix.

Perez’s attempt to compete for the title against his fellow team member, Verstappen, was short-lived as he struggled to fully utilize the dominating Red Bull car. Despite finishing second in the drivers’ standings, he earned less than half the points collected by the Dutch driver.

Christian Horner, the team principal, urged Perez to begin the new season with a strong performance. His driver responded well, achieving four podium finishes in the first five races. This was sufficient evidence for Red Bull to believe that Perez is deserving of retaining his seat.

Red Bull has made a commitment to maintain a driver line-up consisting of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen until the year 2026.
