Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri can all still win the Formula One World Drivers’ Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 7 December 2025. After an exciting weekend in Qatar, the title race is very close. McLaren had a poor Grand Prix in Las Vegas, where Norris and Piastri were disqualified, which opened up the competition.
Max Verstappen won in Qatar, finishing ahead of Piastri in second and Norris in fourth. This leaves the standings as follows: Lando Norris leads with 408 points, Verstappen is second on 396, and Piastri third on 392. Verstappen is chasing his fifth title, while Norris and Piastri are both looking for their first.
Norris can win the championship by finishing third or higher, no matter what the others do. If he finishes lower, he will need Verstappen and Piastri to finish behind him. Verstappen can take the title by winning in Abu Dhabi if Norris finishes fourth or lower. Piastri can win if he wins the race and Norris finishes sixth or lower.
If the top drivers finish tied on points, the championship will go to the driver with the most wins. All three currently have seven wins, so second-place finishes would decide the title. Here, Norris has the advantage with eight second-place finishes, ahead of Verstappen and Piastri.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will decide a tense and closely fought championship between three drivers.
