Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has taken full responsibility for an incident at the start of the Qatar Grand Prix in which he crashed into team-mate George Russell.
After the accident that happened in the first corner of the first lap, Hamilton remained in the sand, while Russell used the exit of the safety car to go to the pits and take care of everything that was damaged during the incident, and then continued the race at the end of which he won the fourth place.
After the race, Lewis looked for his compatriot in the paddock to give him a hand, and Russell of course accepted his older colleague’s apology.
“There are no hard words. We are here to fight and to contribute to the team’s success. We made mistakes, but in the end we made a good result. I am proud of the team and expect us to do even better at the next race in Austin.” Russell said.
George especially pointed out that he appreciated what Lewis had done.
“Congratulations to him on his apology. Every incident involves at least two people.” Russell stated.
The older of the two “silver arrows” drivers pointed out that the relationship between him and Russell is “excellent”.
“I have no problem with George. We have great communication and always talk about everything.” said the champion.
The Formula 1 championship continues on October 22 with the United States Grand Prix.
