Malta’s women’s football star, Maya Lucia, is set to continue her professional career in Poland, having signed with Gdańsk, a club competing in the country’s top-flight division.
Lucia, 21, embarks on her third consecutive season playing abroad, following successful stints in Italy and Croatia. Last season, she began with Croatian side Split before transferring to Osijek during the winter transfer window. Her time at Osijek was marked by significant achievements, as she helped the team clinch the Croatian championship and reach the final of the domestic cup.
During her tenure in Croatian football, Lucia made 22 appearances and found the back of the net three times. Prior to her Croatian experience, she played 15 matches with Serie B side Genoa in Italy, further honing her skills on the European stage.

On the international front, Lucia has earned six caps for the Malta women’s national team, showcasing her talent on a broader scale.
Gdańsk has already kicked off their 2024/2025 campaign, securing one point from their opening two fixtures. They are scheduled to face Tczew away on August 31 in their next league encounter. Last season, Gdańsk finished solidly in the top-flight, continuing their pursuit of a historic first national title after finishing as runners-up in the 2022/2023 domestic cup.
Lucia’s addition to the Gdańsk squad is expected to bolster their ambitions as they strive for success in both league and cup competitions this season.
