Birkirkara drawn again against Breznica in UEFA Women’s Champions League

Birkirkara, Malta’s representatives, are set to face Montenegro’s Breznica for the second consecutive year in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, as determined by Friday’s draw.

The Stripes will clash with Breznica in one of Group 4’s semi-finals. The victor will then compete against either Belgium’s Anderlecht or Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade for a coveted second-round position.

The semi-final losers will contest a third-place ranking match.

The tournament, to be hosted in a yet-to-be-confirmed country, is scheduled for 4 and 7 September.

Last year, Birkirkara hosted the mini-tournament, with Edith Garcia’s last-minute goal securing a 1-0 victory over Breznica in the semi-final.

The Stripes subsequently fell to Swiss powerhouse Zurich in the final.

Vince Galea will manage Birkirkara, succeeding Jose Borg, who guided the team to a domestic treble in the 2023/2024 season.
