Christopher Nkunku struck twice to help AC Milan move two points clear at the top of the Serie A table with a commanding 3-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the San Siro, extending the Rossoneri’s unbeaten league run to 15 matches.
The contest began at a slow tempo, with Milan struggling to carve out clear chances in the early stages. The first real opening arrived after 20 minutes when Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s deflected effort from distance drifted narrowly wide.
Just as the first half appeared set to end goalless, Milan made their pressure count in stoppage time. Luka Modrić delivered a precise corner which Adrien Rabiot flicked on, allowing an unmarked Christian Pulisic to react quickest and hook the ball home from close range for his eighth league goal of the season.
The second half could not have started better for the hosts. Within a minute of the restart, Victor Nelsson brought down Nkunku inside the penalty area, and the French forward confidently converted the resulting spot kick to double Milan’s advantage and open his Serie A account.
Nkunku struck again just five minutes later, reacting fastest after Lorenzo Montipò pushed Modrić’s long-range effort onto the post, tapping in from close range to end the contest effectively.
With Verona’s defence in disarray, Milan pushed for more goals, coming closest shortly after the hour mark when Montipò denied Loftus Cheek at his near post. However, the Rossoneri were content to manage the closing stages as the San Siro crowd celebrated another assured performance.
Milan will begin 2026 with an away trip to Cagliari on 2 January, firmly in control at the summit of the table.
For Verona, the defeat brings their two-match winning run to an end. The Gialloblù remain in the relegation zone in 18th place, two points adrift of safety.
