Milan and Juventus share the spoils in a bore draw

AC Milan and Juventus ended their Serie A clash at the San Siro in a goalless stalemate on Saturday, with the match lacking excitement and opportunities. Juventus continue to be the only team unbeaten in Serie A, yet their seventh draw this season leaves them in sixth place, three points adrift of leaders Inter Milan. Milan hold onto seventh position, trailing Juve by six points but with one game in hand.

With top scorer Dusan Vlahovic sidelined due to injury, Juventus decided against fielding a traditional striker, instead positioning midfielders Weston McKennie and Teun Koopmeiners up front. Despite being the more assertive team, they failed to pose a serious goal threat.

Juventus’ manager, Thiago Motta, delayed making substitutions, and the introduction of forward Timothy Weah with just ten minutes remaining did little to enliven the match. The final whistle was met with boos from the spectators.

During the opening half, Juventus appeared more dynamic in their offensive plays, yet their sole shot that reached the target was Federico Gatti’s long-range attempt, which posed no challenge for goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Milan’s best opportunity before halftime occurred following the game’s first corner during stoppage time, with Emerson Royal narrowly missing the near post with his header. “We must keep playing with patience,” Motta advised DAZN before the second half commenced, and his team adhered to his directive. In contrast to last month’s thrilling 4-4 draw with Inter at the San Siro, this match saw neither Juventus nor Milan truly threatening to score. Khephren Thuram attempted a curling shot from afar that Maignan easily caught, and soon after, Theo Hernandez took a Milan free kick short to Tijjani Reijnders, who then launched a shot wildly over the bar.

In stoppage time, Hernandez’s feeble header directly at the goalkeeper was Milan’s sole attempt on target, and the crowd’s reaction at the final whistle encapsulated the match—an exasperating experience for supporters of both teams.
