Juventus manager Thiago Motta expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance in their 2-2 draw against Bologna at home on Saturday. However, he commended the resilience shown by his players, as they maintained their unbeaten record in Serie A this season. Bologna took a well-deserved two-goal lead against a struggling Juve side that had difficulty creating scoring opportunities. But in the dying moments of the game, Samuel Mbangula’s goal salvaged a point for Motta’s team. Motta acknowledged the positive aspect of the match, stating, “The team’s reaction was a bright spot.
We managed to salvage a game that was in a dire situation.” He went on to thank his players for their determination and bravery. Juventus’ performance was lacklustre, resulting in their ninth league draw of the season. However, the manager shouldered full responsibility for the team’s display.
“No player went missing. It was a tactical issue and that responsibility lies with me,” Motta admitted. “We couldn’t handle the pressure. Today was challenging and we faced difficulties, but we can’t be content. Let me reiterate, we are not satisfied, but this setback should make us stronger.”
While Juventus remains the sole unbeaten team in Serie A, another draw places them in sixth position, trailing by seven points. Motta was asked if their league standing could impact his team. “We need to enhance our performance to reach the desired position, which is not where we currently stand,” Motta responded. “We must confront this situation by progressing and improving for the upcoming match on Wednesday.”
On Wednesday, Manchester City will travel to Turin for a Champions League match. Both teams are tied with eight points and are outside the automatic qualification spots.
