AC Milan produced a classic comeback performance on Monday night, scoring twice in two minutes to overturn a deficit and beat Genoa 2-1 in a rain-soaked Serie A clash at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Genoa took a deserved lead in the 65th minute when substitute Vitinha, on the pitch for barely a minute, found space inside the box and smashed home a first-time finish from a well-placed cross. The hosts had dominated much of the first half and would have gone ahead earlier if not for the heroics of Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who made a string of vital saves to keep the score level.
But Milan, Serie A’s comeback kings this season, responded swiftly. In the 76th minute, Rafael Leão leveled the score with a deflected strike that left Genoa keeper Josep Martínez rooted. Just two minutes later, misfortune struck the home side as Morten Frendrup inadvertently turned a cross into his own net under pressure from Christian Pulisic, completing the Milan turnaround.
The match, played under relentless rainfall, was a physical battle, frequently interrupted by injuries and treatment stoppages. The weather seemed to dampen the tempo early in the second half, but the final 20 minutes delivered a burst of drama that defined the contest.
