Alvaro Morata departs from Atletico to sign for Milan

Spanish forward Alvaro Morata has signed a four-year deal with AC Milan, transferring from LaLiga team Atletico Madrid, the Serie A club announced on Friday.

While both Milan and Atletico kept the financial terms under wraps, media sources indicated that the Italian club activated the release clause in his contract, which was approximately 13 million euros ($14.15 million).

Morata, who joined Atletico in 2019 for a reported sum of around 65 million euros, has netted 58 goals in 154 games for the club. The 31-year-old also led Spain to European Championship triumph on Sunday.

Morata began his career with Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid before moving to Juventus in 2014 and also had a stint with Premier League side Chelsea.

During his time at Santiago Bernabeu, he claimed the Champions League, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey titles twice each, in addition to winning the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

At Juventus, he secured two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies. While with Chelsea, Morata also won the Europa League and the FA Cup.
