During the annual “Premju Nazzjonali Ħaddiema tas-Sena 2025”, organised by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Social Dialogue, Marsaskala FC Youth Nursery received a Special Recognition Award for its excellent work in sport with children who have disabilities.
This award shows the club’s strong commitment to inclusion and highlights how sports organisations can make a positive difference in the community by welcoming everyone and offering equal opportunities.
Over the past three seasons, Marsaskala FC Youth Nursery, working closely with the Malta Down Syndrome Association, has made big efforts to ensure that children with disabilities can take part in football.
Understanding how important sport is for social inclusion, the club has organised regular football training sessions specially planned for children with different disabilities. These sessions are made to be easy to join, enjoyable, and encouraging, so that every child can experience the fun of playing football.
Today, the Gold Cap team is a great example of what can be achieved through hard work and teamwork. The team now has 10 enthusiastic players, each with their own strengths and personalities. Guided by two dedicated coaches, the young players receive basic football training in a friendly and relaxed environment. The coaches work not only on football skills but also on building confidence, teamwork, and a sense of belonging.
This project began as a small idea within the Nursery committee three years ago. What started as a simple suggestion has grown into a successful programme that is now recognised across Malta. The award given at the “Premju Nazzjonali Ħaddiema tas-Sena 2025” confirms that such projects are valued and appreciated by the community.
The award has given the club even more motivation to keep improving and expanding. They hope more children will join, so that many others can enjoy the benefits of sport in a safe and supportive environment. Marsaskala FC Youth Nursery’s experience shows that with vision, cooperation, and dedication, it is possible to create meaningful opportunities for children with disabilities, helping them grow both on and off the pitch.
