Għaxaq Wolves and Senglea Gunners set for MAFA Cup final

Għaxaq Wolves and Senglea Gunners have reached the final of the BOV MAFA 70th Anniversary Cup after winning their semi-final matches.

Għaxaq Wolves had a tough match against Marsa St Michael’s, which was only decided by a penalty shoot-out. After 70 minutes of normal and extra time, the score was 3-3 in a closely fought game.

Marsa St Michael’s took the lead in the 13th minute through Lamin Saho, but Għaxaq Wolves quickly equalised when Shajahan Areeckal scored an own goal three minutes later. Diego Fernando Pereira then put Għaxaq ahead 2-1, but Joao Marcello levelled for Marsa St Michael’s, making it 2-2 at half-time.

In the second half, Leandro da Silva Almeida made it 3-2 for Għaxaq Wolves, but Joao Marcello equalised again. Neither team could score in extra time, and Għaxaq Wolves eventually won 8-7 in the penalty shoot-out. The match was refereed by Alper Can.

The other semi-final saw Senglea Gunners dominate Balluta Barracudas, winning 8-0. They led 2-0 at half-time and added six more goals in the second half. Christopher Philip Balotelli starred with five goals, while Ogar Augustine, Ousman Jallow, and Joshua Gaku also scored. The referee was Onur Arslan.

The final between Għaxaq Wolves and Senglea Gunners will take place next Saturday at 2:30 pm at the Marsaxlokk Ground.
