Malta U21 National Team Coach Davide Mazzotta has highlighted how the away trip to San Marino has enabled the team to continue growing its chemistry and become more accustomed to the style of play he wants to see.
Coach Mazzotta was speaking ahead of the second of two international friendlies that the team will have against San Marino.
Malta won the first match on Wednesday 1-0, with defender Kean Scicluna getting the only goal of the game in what was a relatively dominant display from the young Maltese side at the Ezio Conti di Dogana Stadium.
On Saturday 7th June, Malta will face off against San Marino again, this time at the Stadio di Acquaviva, with kick-off at 18:00hrs.
Commenting on the previous game, Coach Mazzotta remarked that the coaching staff feels the team was solid, compact, and very determined.
“In terms of character, they [the team] are ready to make sacrifices and are never willing to give up. This trip is allowing us to grow day by day, both in terms of chemistry and in developing our idea of proactive football,” he added.
Given Saturday’s match is so close to the one played on Wednesday, not allowing plenty of days for recovery, Coach Mazzotta stated that this will open the doors for more rotation.
“We will give playing time to others right from the start and will do our best to give more or less everyone some minutes,” he said.
He added that some players are not fully fit to start and will therefore come on as substitutes during the match. Coach Mazzotta also mentioned that some players are still very young and hence will need to be integrated more gradually.
