Aston Villa are set to sign Spanish midfielder Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the season.
At the same time, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is due to have a medical at Villa before completing a loan move to the club.
It’s not clear exactly when the deals for both players will be finalised, but Villa are aiming to have them both in before the January transfer window closes on Monday at 23:00 GMT.
Villa have already signed Spanish full-back Andres Garcia from Levante and Netherlands forward Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund this January. They also sold Colombian striker Jhon Duran to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr for £71m and centre-back Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce for about £8.45m.
Asensio, 29, has scored seven goals in 47 appearances for PSG since joining from Real Madrid in the summer of 2023, helping the club win the French title in 2024. He has also played for Mallorca and Espanyol, and earned 38 caps for Spain.
Manager Unai Emery said his team “need new players” following a 2-0 defeat at Wolves on Saturday, which left Villa in eighth place in the Premier League.
The club finished in the top eight of the new Champions League group stage, qualifying for the last 16.
