Bayer defended the top of the table with a draw with Borussia

In a highly anticipated encounter, Bayer Leverkusen hosted Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga’s 13th round, maintaining their position at the helm of the German championship despite a hard-fought draw.

The Millionaires wasted no time making their mark, securing an early 1-0 lead within five minutes. Füllkrug orchestrated a brilliant play, setting up Ryerson, who clinically found the net for the visitors.

Throughout the match, Bayer posed a threat with several long-range attempts. Xhaka tested the waters in the 21st minute, and Grimaldo aimed for the rival’s goal from a free kick ten minutes later.

Controversy arose in the first 45 minutes when Wirz seemingly scored for Bayer, only for VAR intervention to annul the goal.

Despite the drama, the score remained unchanged until halftime.

The second half lacked the same intensity, but it did witness a crucial moment for the home team. In the 79th minute, Bayer executed a swift counterattack, with Schick finding Boniface, who leveled the score with a precise finish.

Dortmund made a late attempt through Füllkrug , but the home goalkeeper thwarted the effort, concluding the match in a deadlock.

With points evenly distributed, Bayer retains its position at the summit of the table with 35 points, while Dortmund sits fifth with a ten-point deficit.
