Marsaxlokk FC have announced the signing of Georgian international forward Sergo Kukhianidze, marking a key addition to their attacking line-up.
The 25-year-old joins the Maltese club after his contract with Estonian side JK Trans Narva expired at the end of 2024. During his stint in the Premium Liiga, Kukhianidze made 30 appearances between February and November 2024, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists.
Kukhianidze is a versatile attacker capable of playing as a central striker or as a right-winger. However, it is expected that Marsaxlokk manager Enzo Potenza will primarily deploy him in a central attacking role. This decision is likely influenced by the club’s recent signing of Maltese international Juan Carlos Corbalan, who typically operates on the right wing.
Marsaxlokk’s negotiations with Kukhianidze began earlier this month and concluded successfully in recent days. His arrival is expected to strengthen the club’s offensive options as they seek to bolster their performances in the Malta Premier League.
Although Kukhianidze has only earned one senior cap for Georgia – a brief appearance in a 2022 match against the Netherlands – he has represented his country at the U21 level on four occasions. This season, he will be the sole Georgian player in the Malta Premier League, adding a unique dynamic to the competition.
Kukhianidze follows in the footsteps of other Georgian players who have previously played in Malta, and Marsaxlokk fans will be hoping his contributions can make a significant impact as the club aims to climb the league table.
