Cowell has been appointed as the team principal of Aston Martin, while Krack will continue in their current role.
Andy Cowell has been appointed as the new team principal of Aston Martin in a significant management reorganization, while Mike Krack will take on the role of chief trackside officer, announced the Formula One team based in Silverstone on Friday. Cowell, who previously served as the head of Mercedes engines, joined Aston Martin as CEO last year. During his time at Mercedes AMG GPP (High Performance Powertrains), the British executive held the position of managing director and witnessed Mercedes’ unprecedented success, securing eight consecutive constructors’ championships. In a statement, the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team declared a restructuring of its senior management team, as part of their ongoing pursuit of becoming a championship-winning outfit. The team emphasized the need for clear leadership and a shift towards a flatter structure, leading to Andy Cowell assuming the role of CEO and Team Principal with immediate effect. Cowell’s contributions were instrumental in the achievements of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
“I have dedicated the past three months to comprehending and evaluating our performance, and I have been deeply impressed by the team’s unwavering devotion, commitment, and diligent efforts,” expressed the 55-year-old individual. “These alterations within our organization are a natural progression of our long-term strategies, which we have meticulously planned, and I am tremendously enthusiastic about what lies ahead.” Formerly the head of BMW Motorsport, Krack joined Aston Martin as the team principal in 2022, following his prior involvement in Formula One with Sauber, a Swiss-based team. Aston Martin further stated that Mike Krack will assume the role of Chief Trackside Officer, leading the trackside team. This change comes after Mike initially joined the team as the Team Principal in 2022, continuing to prioritize optimizing the car’s performance on the racetrack. The team also disclosed that Enrico Cardile, former technical director at Ferrari, will oversee the development, design, and construction of new race cars. Additionally, Tom McCullough, the performance director, will transition to Aston Martin’s other racing categories.

Aston Martin, who secured the fifth position in the 2024 constructors’ standings, intend to make a transition from Mercedes engines to Honda starting in 2026. This change coincides with the sport’s entrance into a new era featuring revised engine and aerodynamic regulations. Drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have committed to Aston Martin for the 2025 season. Alonso, the Spanish racer, inked a two-year contract last year, and Stroll was granted a contract extension in 2024. In the 2024 driver’s standings, Alonso, a two-times world champion, clinched the ninth spot with a total of 70 points. Stroll accumulated 24 points and finished in 13th place.
