Harry Kane scored a perfect hat-trick as Bayern Munich made a strong start to the new Bundesliga season, beating RB Leipzig 6-0 at home. The result keeps Bayern’s 14-year unbeaten record on opening day intact and gives Ole Werner a tough first match as Leipzig’s new coach.
RB Leipzig managed to keep things tight early on, but Bayern slowly took control. Kane missed an early chance, but Michael Olise soon gave Bayern the lead after a lucky deflection put the ball in his path. Five minutes later, Luis Díaz smashed in Bayern’s second goal on his Bundesliga debut.
Olise then made it 3-0 before half-time, finishing calmly after a pass from Serge Gnabry. Leipzig showed some promise at the start of the second half, with Antonio Nusa going close, but Bayern’s quality soon showed again. Kane scored Bayern’s fourth after a quick counter-attack.
Nusa thought he had pulled one back for Leipzig, but his goal was ruled out due to a rolling ball at the free-kick. Bayern punished that mistake, with Kane scoring twice more in quick succession to complete his eighth Bundesliga hat-trick. Both goals were smart finishes from the left side of the box.
Bayern, managed by Vincent Kompany, were happy to stop at six goals, continuing their excellent start after also winning the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup last week.
