The NBA is set to return to Mexico City next season as part of its ongoing global expansion, with a regular-season matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons scheduled for November 1, 2025.
This highly anticipated clash will mark the 34th NBA game held in Mexico since the league first visited the country in 1992, continuing the tradition of bringing top-tier basketball to passionate international fans.
The game promises to be a major draw, especially with the Mavericks expected to feature Cooper Flagg, the projected No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. The Pistons, meanwhile, are riding high after a breakout season that saw them return to the Eastern Conference playoffs, setting the stage for an exciting showdown.
“We take significant pride in the fact that the Mavericks organization and our supporters reflect the increased globalization of basketball and the NBA,” said Mavericks CEO Rick Welts. “The vibrancy of Mexico City and the passion of its fans make it the perfect place to host these Global Games.”
The game is part of the NBA’s broader initiative to expand its global footprint and engage with an ever-growing international fanbase.
“Playing a regular-season game in Mexico City will be a great experience for our players and coaches,” said Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon. “We look forward to showcasing Detroit basketball to an international audience and a passionate, growing NBA fanbase.”
While the full NBA schedule for the 2025–26 season is expected to be released later this summer, the league often announces select international games in advance to generate early excitement and facilitate global promotion.
As the NBA continues to foster international connections, Mexico City remains a key location for the league’s efforts — offering not just a thrilling venue, but a dedicated and growing basketball community.
