Serbian center Uroš Plavšić has returned to Crvena Zvezda, describing the move back to his boyhood club as a dream come true after gaining valuable experience abroad.
Plavšić, who previously left Belgrade to join Turkish side Beşiktaş, admitted that the decision to leave Zvezda was not easy but ultimately proved to be the right step for his career. “It was difficult when I was leaving, but the decision was the best one for me at that time. Now, coming back feels like the greatest reward,” he told MeridianSport.
Reflecting on his first stint at Zvezda, Plavšić acknowledged that emotions had overwhelmed him as a young player:
“Minutes must be earned in training, especially for younger players. I was too emotional last time, knowing I was playing for the club I supported since childhood. This time, I’ve learned to channel those feelings in a more positive way.”
During his season in Turkey, Plavšić worked under Serbian coach Dušan Alimpijević, describing the experience as invaluable:
“Having Dušan as my first international coach helped me a lot. It meant so much to have someone who understood me, who could clearly explain what was expected. It was a very positive experience.”
Now back at Mali Kalemegdan, Plavšić joins a refreshed Zvezda roster with several new faces, including players with NBA and EuroLeague experience. He stressed the importance of building chemistry quickly:
“We need to connect on and off the court. Once the new players feel the atmosphere at home games, they’ll understand the weight of the Zvezda jersey.”
Plavšić’s return marks the start of a new chapter for both player and club as Crvena Zvezda look ahead to challenges in the ABA League and EuroLeague this season.
