Clean up initiative between eNGO Zibel and Royal Malta Yacht Club

Recently, the Royal Malta Yacht Club played host to eNGO Zibel, who delivered a powerful presentation on the significance of marine conservation. The event aimed to raise awareness about the pressing problem of ocean waste and encourage action within the local sailing and coastal communities, especially among the RMYC Sailing School Community.

During the presentation, Zibel founder Andrew Schembri emphasised the dangers of improper waste management, particularly when it comes to marine debris, and shared practical tips on how individuals can contribute to reducing ocean pollution. A significant outcome of this initiative was the installation of a Zibel bin outside the RMYC Sailing School, exclusively for plastics found in the sea, as these materials cannot be processed alongside regular recyclables.

“The Royal Malta Yacht Club recognises the urgent need for collective effort to protect our oceans and we are dedicated to advancing this cause. Together with Zibel, we believe that small, mindful actions can bring about meaningful change,” stated David Cremona, RMYC Commodore. In response to this call for action, the Royal Malta Yacht Club, the RMYC Sailing School, and Zibel will be organising a Coastal Cleanup event on Friday, 13th September at 1:00 PM at the RMYC Sailing School in Ta’ Xbiex. This event is open to all who are passionate about preserving the natural beauty of Malta and is an opportunity to safeguard marine life, maintain the cleanliness of our coastline, and promote environmental stewardship among young sailors and the general public. The Royal Malta Yacht Club will provide all necessary cleaning supplies.
