Success for Malta in pickleball

From the 12th to the 15th of September 2024, Steffi Pace Girard and Roberta Pace Girard from Malta Pickleball organized an international tournament at De La Salle College in Malta.

The Maltese team was led by Steffi Pace Girard and included players from 10 different countries, including the UK, USA, Belgium, Canada, Sweden, Serbia, Greece, Italy, Austria, and Malta.

In the singles category under 18, John Aquilina from Malta won the gold medal and Timmy Muscat from Malta came in third place. The second place was taken by a foreign player.

In the singles category under 18, Alexandra Micallef Ampong from Malta won first place and Emily Farrugia from Malta came in second place. The third place was taken by a foreign player.

In the junior mixed doubles event, the Maltese dominated and won the medals. John Aquilina and David Didyke from Malta won the gold medal.

In the adult events, the Maltese also performed well. The tournament level was intermediate plus. In the women’s singles, Maja Glumac from Malta won the gold medal and in the men’s singles, Joseph Allis from Malta came in second place, followed by Malcolm Falzon from Malta in third place. The Italian player won the event.

In the doubles event for 19+, Kristine Micallef Ampong and Naomi Attard from Malta came in third place. The American team took second place and the first place was taken by a team from America and Sweden.

In the men’s doubles for 19+, Maurizio Cappello and Joseph Allis from Malta won the gold medal. They were followed by a Greek team in second place and Tony Thompson from Malta and Simon Watson from the UK in third place.

In the mixed doubles for 19+, the team from Belgium won the gold medal. Mark Anastasi and Maja Glumac from Malta won the silver medal, while Maurizio Cappello and Kristine Micallef from Malta won the bronze medal.

In the men’s doubles for 50+, Victor Sciberras and Karl Falzon from Malta won the bronze medal, while a Canadian team won second place and an English team won first place.
