During the second day of the SportMalta Conference entitled ‘Celebrating Sport in Malta’ SportMalta, the CEO of AiMS (Maltese Authority for Integrity in Sport), Jean Claude Micallef, addressed concerns raised by several sports associations and federations regarding the excessive bureaucracy in the current registration process.
During an intervention during Saturday’s session, Micallef announced that in the coming days, the relevant authorities will launch a simplified process, transforming what has been a challenge for numerous clubs, associations, and federations into a smoother and more straightforward procedure. He explained that the goal is for a single registration submission by a sports entity to be evaluated and scrutinized by all relevant authorities simultaneously.
Jean Claude Micallef highlighted that the discussions initiated between SportMalta and AiMS are expected to yield the desired results, thanks to the promised cooperation from the Malta Business Registry (MBR) and the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organizations (OCVO).
The CEO of AiMS thanked the Chairperson of the Authority, Judge Emeritus Antonio Mizzi, for understanding the frustrations of associations and clubs. This allowed him, without delay following his appointment as CEO of AiMS, to embark on discussions together with SportMalta CEO Mark Cutajar to address the situation.
Micallef concluded his intervention at the conference by expressing confidence that, with the involvement of Ministers Clifton Grima, Silvio Schembri, and Julia Farrugia, sports administrators will be able to focus more on improving results rather than document collection.
